White Smith Cousino conducted an in-depth analysis of St. Petersburg’s existing Land Development Regulations (LDRs) to implement Vision 2020, the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The Plan envisioned a city divided into neighborhoods, centers, and corridors, and suburban areas. The new code included innovative provisions for compact and sustainable development patterns, adaptive reuse of buildings, and green building practices. After the new Land Development Regulations were adopted, the Florida Green Building Coalition acknowledged St. Petersburg as the state’s first “Green City” using LEED principles, the first designation of its kind in the United States.
