The City of Columbia teamed up with WSC, and landscape firm MKSK, to develop a set of design guidelines as part of Downtown Columbia’s Strategic Plan and Design Guidelines update. WSC completed the Design Guidelines, which included a comprehensive update and consolidation of Columbia’s existing City Center and Innovista design districts, encompassing several areas within the downtown core. The new update breaks down guidelines for development into four categories—Site Planning, Public Realm, Private Realm, and Signs—with new provisions to encourage enhanced open space, improve building relationships with the street, and coordinate review of trees and infrastructure.
