The Town of Decatur, Georgia is a unique town center, county seat, and major transit stop just minutes from downtown Atlanta, Georgia. As a sub to MKSK, the WSC team reviewed, assessed, and provided recommendations for strategic updates to the Town’s Unified Development Ordinance. We proposed key recommendations to enhance the quality of infill, mixed-use, and multi-family development within the downtown core. Strategies included resilient and active retail methods, incentives to attract boutique hotel development, land use strategies to promote mixed-use and limit single-use buildings, minimum provisions for semi-public spaces in new infill development, and resilient and sustainable options for public space. Decatur’s Town Center Plan was adopted in June 2023.
