In 2019, White & Smith partnered with Benchmark Planning to implement recommendations from the 2016 Joint Land Use Plan for the region around Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point (MCAS Cherry Point).
We developed military influence zoning districts for 20 jurisdictions surrounding MCAS Cherry Point. We tailored each district to the specific impacts (noise and accident potential) in each county and municipality.
We prepared a military planning and coordination agreement that established protocols for coordination between the local governments and MCAS Cherry Point.
We also prepared public outreach materials to help inform the community of potential military impacts. These materials included a sample real estate disclosure form, sample language for local government application and permitting forms, and a list of frequently asked questions regarding laser pointers and how they can interfere with the military mission and threaten public safety.
