Tyson Smith, AICP
Founding Partner and Certified Planner
Tyson Smith has over 30 years of experience in local government and land use planning, with particular focus on impact fees, concurrency (APF), growth management, military compatibility, resilience planning, agricultural preservation, and transferable development rights.
Before beginning his consulting career, Tyson was a planner with Monroe County in the Florida Keys, later serving as the Assistant City Planner for the City of Key West. In these positions, Tyson gained important in-house experience in affordable housing, short-term rentals, residential/commercial land use compatibility, concurrency as well as implementation of the Keys’ ground-breaking “building permit allocation system,” which ties growth rate to hurricane evacuation capacity and environmental and conservation site features.
Tyson has served as an expert witness and is an attorney practicing with White & Smith Zoning Law, LLC.
Tyson spends time in both Charleston and Key West, where he enjoys boating and photography and the occasional tune on the guitar.
