The Town of Mount Pleasant hired WSC to conduct a review and assessment of its Zoning Code, Land Development Regulations, and other development-related codes, the first phase in a multi-phase process to comprehensively update the development codes.
We reviewed the development codes and provided a series of recommended changes in the Development Codes Technical Evaluation.
The Town subsequently modified WSC’s contract to include the second phase of the project, the Zoning Code Rewrite. This phase began with a targeted code amendment to address an urgent community issue—implementation of the Shem Creek Area Management Plan.
Following completion of this targeted amendment, we began a comprehensive revision of the Zoning Code to reflect the Town’s recently adopted Comprehensive Plan and the recommendations in the Development Codes Technical Evaluation.
The Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the revised Zoning Code, with several recommendations for revisions. The Town Council unanimously adopted the revised Zoning Code in January 2025, with a May 1, 2025, effective date.
